The rule with requesting is that long songs shouldn't be requested when the queue is long. This is so vague that it is open to interpretation, and isn't enforced anyway. Iwould like to suggest the following:
1. A "long track" is anything over 8 minutes. A "long queue" is anything over 3 hours.
What do you say, men? (and ladies). Are you with me? |

Many threads have been made before about this issue, specially for the ppl whom their musical tastes are "songs" between 0:10 to 3:00(max) minutes lenght.
The rule was "no song above 10 minutes would be played when queue is over 2 hours" and that didn't fix the long queue lenght claiming. Also there would be songs from the playlist that never would be played cause of that rule, so Jeric removed it. Now the rule is "no song above 13:20 minutes would be requested when the queue is over 2:00 hours"
If you look deep, there has been times where the queue is 3:30 with no song over 8 minutes, the answer, cause there are almost 50 songs on queue requested by too many Rip's and non rip's.
Also, when long songs are on queue, you wait less time (30 min or so) for your next request, cause for example a 10min song decreases the queue request time, but when the queue is full of crappy "songs", intros, or stupid noises, then you have to wait 1 hour for you next request.
Btw, I'm not doing apology to long songs requesting, but ppl always look to the problem from that point instead of taking advice of the 50 "short" songs = a 3:30 queue too. _________________ ----------------

Thanks for your post Jvan, I was unaware of a lot of those things. Allowing longer requests because there are already long songs in the queue sounds backwards to me, but I don't know how these things work.
I assumed longer songs were barred when the Q reached a certain length.
Edit: this wasn't aimed at anyone in particular Thors. |

The limit is enforced in the software. Any songs that are longer than 12 or 13 minutes cannot be requested when the queue exceeds a certain limit.
I can't remember the exact figures, but you should try to request some long songs when the queue exceeds, say, 2 hours - you'll see that they are red in the album and not because the track was requested recently.
The current limits have been set taking the average length of the queue across the day and the average length of *good* songs that would be disabled if the length was too short. These limits are not debatable anymore.
Please see this topic for an in-depth analysis and exact figures.
