which is better for DM?i would say dropped tunings eg. drop C which is
mostly used.Unless u want to play those old skool death thrash
to achieve those crunchy and grundge sound u might want to
consider playing with higher tunings.alternatively, try the different tunings
on yr own..u might just get the sound u really want. Smile

Well I sat up late last night and tried higher tunings, and I really enjoyed E flat standard and Drop B. I liked them both for very contrasting reasons. So i suppose im neutral with my decision LOL

For death metal dropped tunings are a must, just for the "humming" sound especially the deep strings, just fits to the music.

hey all guess what I discovered?!? the majority voted dropped so far but, believe it or not lots of DM Bands also play standard tunings:

Death: D Standard
Cannibal Corpse (early): E Flat standard
Cannibal Corpse (Later) B Flat Standard
Deicide: E flat standard (Most Songs)
Decapitated: C sharp standard (some songs)
Black Dahlia Murder: C Standard.

Yeah. JFAC played Drop A Sharp but on "Ruination" they played D standard. Record is Definitely heavier however some songs on that album are constructed in a really odd way.

Im kinda leaning toward dropped. Then im kinda leaning towards a standard.

But maybe most drop tuning enable most bands to use breakdowns more frequently instead of bridges.

I suppose Its a tie.. Neutral

For classic DM sound like Death's band, obviously Standard D, but if someone tries to sound lower and heavier like Hypocrisy or Morbid Angel, the recomended tunes are Starndard C and Dropped C.

Oh it seems there was a bit of a misunderstanding from my side here, with dropped tunings I thought you meant everything below the standard "EADGBE"-stuff, my bad. I like the "bartione tunings" some of the DM-Bands have, so probably you should look into that direction.
