Hi all,

Being a member of Death.fm since 2009 now, I love the community and the radio concept and it's what keeps bringing me back here. However, when we talk about alternate sources of accessing music - specifically extreme metal - I believe Spotify has been the best solution for me so far, and I wanted the community's views on it! Here are my top reasons for using Spotify:

1) I am paying for my music.

2) Range of music available (I've noticed a couple of bands having their albums added recently - which means Spotify's always working on expanding their library).

3) Discovering new music - it's incredible, the related artists feature gave me access to so many new bands and artists that blew my mind.

4) Offline access - Spotify allows very easy access to songs offline, all you have to do to save a song is hit the '+' button and you have it on your laptop and every other device you own that Spotify has an app for.

5) Remote control - You can control music on your laptop (I usually have mine connected to a speaker) through your phone, change songs, volume etc. - all without moving!

6) Playlist, Album, Artist and Song previews (*new feature they've added) - press and hold any song, artist, album, or playlist and you can explore previews of each song (even while having one in the bacckground - if you're simply browsing, it pauses your current music and plays the preview smoothly).

I think Spotify can be amazing for extreme metal enthusaists considering we all have busy lives and some of us can't practically always access (or build) their own CD collections but truly appreciate the music enough to pay for it (Spotify shared 70% of the revenue it earns from you to the artists/bands you listen to).

What does the DFM community think?

Best,
Urvesh

I know of a couple of people who use Spotify and ive seen it used on multiple platforms. Unfortunately my job doesn't allow me to listen to any music, being in Data Centers all the time and a constant hum of servers puts me into a Zen like state.

The things i have seen it do tho are worth while, i would be glad to be a user of Spotify.

You could, you're a moderator. Unless this isn't a forum to discuss alternative sources of streaming what matters, good metal.
