Suicide Silence - Cleansing, The
Beauty has been Destroyed
By: Belial666
Date: 25 Apr 2009
Rating:

I loved this album. It is as simple as that. Suicide Silence's Vocalist Mitch Lucker has the voice of a dying angel. His Deathcore genre vocals could easily open up to Death Metal if he ditched the mic-holding routine that most Deathcore Vocalists preform to get a lower, more duplicating sound. Pure perfection, time signatures match up perfectly with the Guitars and Bass in the song, "No Pity For A Coward". No doubt a perfect album for a person that has never listened or liked Deathcore to listen to and get into the subgenre. A perfect 5!

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - All You Need Is Love
A Mixture of Genres
By: Belial666
Date: 25 Apr 2009
Rating:

'All You Need is Love' has a flawless fusion genre of Death Metal and Black Metal. The somewhat crudely written romantic lyrics seem to hold a big inspirational pull from Extreme Gothic Metal band, Cradle of Filth. Nonetheless, a perfectly mixed album that if you are a metalhead with any sense you should buy. A 5 out of 5.

Axis Of Perdition - Ichneumon Method, The (And Less Welcome Techniques)
Apocalyptic noise
By: misanthrone
Date: 23 Apr 2009
Rating:

This album scared the living shit out of me! Dark, sinister, noisy industrialized black metal for hatred-obsessed people.. some of the songs are just too much for my ears.. the whole thing is dark, brutal and noisy as hell.. you really got to have nerves of steel when listening to this, or you’ll have a heart attack.. scary shit !

Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale
The metal circus
By: misanthrone
Date: 23 Apr 2009
Rating:

Welcome to the metal circus! Arcturus is truly the most avant-garde band in the black metal scene, although I wouldn’t label this album as black metal at all.. this is a magnificent metal opera, unique and fascinating.. I don’t recall any band doing what Arcturus did on this album.. the most difficult thing would be trying to label this in any way.. “Opera” is the only word that comes to my mind.. so, upon a metal background / structure, you have layers and layers of sounds, noises, vocals, buffooneries, you name it.
You can imagine seeing a grotesque circus with perverse clowns, jesters, buffoons.. that’s the king of image this album is unveiling.. to me at least.. for a trve bm-er this will sound boring and irritating, to an open minded one – (maybe) fascinating.. I’m on the 2nd category and this will forever be my favorite avant-garde album of all times!

Akercocke - Antichrist
A journey into dark
By: misanthrone
Date: 23 Apr 2009
Rating:

Progressive death metal?.. maybe that’s the right description for this album, the best of their career so far.. this is complex stuff, both music and lyrics.. very intelligent band I would say.. you can hear the death metal, brutal parts, but also all kind of sounds and styles.. interesting concept, if you can understand it, and above all a very dark aura .. Axiom is the video-“hit” of the album, and actually the best song on this (very interesting video btw).. prepare for a journey into dark!

Alastis - Other Side, The
Dark and melancholic
By: misanthrone
Date: 23 Apr 2009
Rating:

Heavily underrated band.. although they do have enough albums, couldn’t get the breakthrough.. hard to label what they play, some kind of atmospheric extreme metal.. death, doom, goth, heavy, you got a little bit of everything.. even though they have faster tracks, most of their songs sound melancholic even a bit depressive sometimes.. they do manage to create a certain atmosphere that differentiate them from the pack, which is rare.. one of the many gems who got lost in the sea of mediocrity..

Abigail Williams - Legend
modern stuff
By: misanthrone
Date: 23 Apr 2009
Rating:

What a strange name for a metal band.. Abigail Williams was one of the original and foremost accusers in the Salem witch trials of 1692..anyways, this EP got me into their music.. and still is my fave of theirs, although the full-length is awesome too.. at first I thought I’m listening to In Flames plus black metal.. very modern energetic sound, excellent drumming, melody added, an explosive mix of extreme metal.. this is one of the few bands that sound a bit commercial but still heavy enough to keep it away from MTV.. one of the best young bands in the scene today..

Anathema - Serenades
Classic
By: misanthrone
Date: 22 Apr 2009
Rating:

Anathema’s best one by far.. back when they used to play a la My Dying Bride.. excellent doom/death.. this album has 2 monster-hits (whatever that means for such genre): “Sweet tears” and “Sleepless”.. slow for the most part, it’s the heaviest of their career and an all-time classic.. even the acoustic interlude “J’ai fait un promesse” fits totally into their concept.. too bad the follow-up was a different story (still good though)..

Dimmu Borgir - Stormblast MMV
Excellent remix
By: misanthrone
Date: 22 Apr 2009
Rating:

this remastered version is just amazing.. I cannot believe these tracks sound so well after all these years.. Sorgens Kammer Del II is the best one (best one in the original version too).. great atmosphere, great keyboards, melodic black metal at it's best..
