Katatonia - Dance Of December Souls
Dance Of December Souls
By: Ebonfire
Date: 1 May 2010
Rating:

Katatonia’s first full-length release, back when they still made quality metal that’s actually worth listening to. Dance Of December Souls is an impressive album which deftly mixes doom, death and even a touch of black metal to create a cold, atmospheric and unique masterpiece that is quite unlike anything released by other bands combining these metal sub-genres.

Special mention must be given to the vocal performance by “Lord Seth”, whose raw and emotional vocal performance fits in perfectly with the style found within Dance Of December Souls.

A true classic, this album is recommended for fans of atmospheric and sorrowful doom/death metal.

Immortal - All Shall Fall
The retake of the thorn of black metal
By: basher
Date: 27 Apr 2010
Rating:

Immortal storms whit this album to the very peak of the black metal, it has a raw, but in a way gentle sound. Immortal has in my mind been the second best black metal band for years, now when the emperor is dead... long live the IMMORTAL

Barren Earth - Curse Of The Red River
Spinewrench

It is beyond my belief that maggots would vote this band below 3.0! I assume all of them were smoking pot. I think the elements of death (heavy) and doom (somewhat) are ever so present; and the melody, the melody; It is called Melodic Death Metal for a fucking reason... Thanx \,,/

Lunar Aurora - Andacht
Andacht
By: Ebonfire
Date: 23 Apr 2010
Rating:

Yet another powerful, diverse, and unique release by this underrated German black metal band.

Full of furious, fast paced black metal brutality, as well as impressive dark ambience passages, Lunar Aurora have once again superbly mixed the brutal with the ambient to create yet another amazing, high quality black metal album.

Andacht will leave you completely breathless in the face of its seamless versatility and unbelievable atmosphere. Best suited for night time listening for an even more enhanced and unforgettable experience.

Gorerotted - Only Tools And Corpses
Gorerotted - Only Tools and Corpses

Reading the lyrics to the songs on this CD, it becomes clear that these guys aren't just musicians - they are comedians! Some parts, although sick and offensive, are just hilarious (providing you have the right sense of humour).

However, jokes aside. This is some of the best and most brutal music ever made. The first song represents this perfectly with the dual vocals kicking in straight away and screaming about dead bodies, which you would expect from the name of the album (does what it says on the tin). Anyway, the best thing about this album for me is the drums. They are stupidly fast and i can't imagine the amount of talent it takes to play perfectly like that. The other instruments are also great - there are some cool bass solos, which is criminally rare in metal.

An example of what I mean by sick and offensive is the song 'Masticated by the Spasticated'. The lyrics describe 'a special bus full of mutants, geeks and downs' and 'demented tards with missing teeth'.

Another great quality of the songs is the fact that you will find yourself singing the choruses to yourself weeks after you first heard it. The vocal arrangements are so 'catchy' that you can't seem to get them out of your head (songs like 'Can't Fit Her Limbs in the Fridge' and 'Fuck your Arse With Broken Glass').

The day I bought this, I listened to it 5 or 6 times all the way through. This is helped by the fact that it only lasts half an hour, but still is an indication of how addictive it is. To be honest, this should be treated as a bit of fun, but it also happens to be fucking amazing music.

Behemoth - Sventevith (Storming Near The Baltic)
Great Black Metal
By: Ymir
Date: 17 Apr 2010
Rating:

A great black metal album from the last band you would expect. This is like Boston playing rap today. Anyway, my favourite track would have to be Chant Of The Eastern Lands. Its a song that holds you in and despite the bad sound quality, it makes you want to listen again and again. Comperable to Immortal and Emperor. Listen to this album then Zoa Kia Cultus then Demigod, and you will see how Behemoth is constantly evolving.

Moonsorrow - Voimasta Ja Kunniasta
Voimasta Ja Kunniasta
By: Ebonfire
Date: 15 Apr 2010
Rating:

Another amazing release from these Finnish viking metal masters. This album will draw you in with its folkish introduction, and then completely blast you away with wave after wave of epic viking metal, in a way that no other viking metal band can hope to accomplish.

Voimasta Ja Kunniasta (English translation: Of Strength And Honour) also contains obvious traces of black metal throughout the album, blended in with the viking and atmospheric to create an album unmatched by any within the folk/viking metal genre.
