Carcass - Symphonies Of Sickness
MY type of music
By: SSPITT
Date: 8 Oct 2010
Rating:

One Of My Favorites I Believed that along with Napalm Obituary Cannible Corpse and many others from my Days these are the ones who paved the way with grindcore metal twisted beats and educaTED LYRICS

Dimmu Borgir - Godless Savage Garden
Great EP, not an outstanding effort though
By: tronous32
Date: 6 Oct 2010
Rating:

The live songs on here are great, even better than the studio. Plus Astennu (their guitarist at the time) was playing here, which added superior playing ability to the songs. I wonder how much better Dimmu's later albums would have been if Astennu were still in the band. As for the regular tracks, well "Chaos Without Prophecy" is my favorite studio song on this EP.

The Howling Void - Megaliths Of The Abyss
Texas funeral doom?
By: cjjeepercreeper
Date: 5 Oct 2010
Rating:

Yes it is, hardcore gravity increasing, mind blowing, heavier than anything on earth funeral doom from of all places San Antonio, Texas. This is a one man project of a guy known only as Ryan who has participated in a wide range of other bands from black metal, to grindcore to sludgey drone metal. The name is Lovecraftian, and I believe the mood Ryan is trying to put forth is in keeping with the writings of Lovecraft. Cosmic, eerie, impending doom, these are all feelings you get from the four long songs on The Howling Void's debut.

The Howling Void - Megaliths Of The Abyss
Megaliths Of The Abyss
By: Ebonfire
Date: 5 Oct 2010
Rating:

The Howling Void is a one man symphonic funeral doom metal band that has just recently appeared on the scene, but after listening to their debut album “Megaliths Of The Abyss”, you know they’re going to be around for a very long time. This album is, quite simply, a perfect example of music performed at its greatest: so simple, and yet so beautiful.

To me, this is the perfect doom metal album, with its high quality production, perfect atmosphere and the unforgettable experience of hearing something as epic as this. This is one of those albums that is simply so amazing, you know the impact of its greatness will remain with you forever. It’s absolutely amazing that only one person created this, the man behind the band should feel great pride for this wonderful work.

To conclude, “Megaliths Of The Abyss” has to be the greatest doom metal album I’ve ever heard. I rate this album 5 out of 5 without hesitation.

Mourning Beloveth - Murderous Circus, A
Doom Metal history
By: urielms
Date: 2 Oct 2010
Rating:

Wow, what a great release one more time even if some of you will say that the other two albums are maybe a bit better I don't really agree actually. "A Murderous Circus" is just a bit different and maybe a bit more accessible but this is a great release of a Doom Metal album and a must for all those who like this music. I hope that the ones who don't know this band yet will buy this album just to see that they are missing one of the greatest bands in Doom Metal history. Buy this album guys and gals or be damned by the legions of Doom.

Doom:VS - Dead Words Speak
funeral-driven doom/death
By: urielms
Date: 29 Sep 2010
Rating:

DOOM:VS is a funeral-driven doom/death project that should be checked out by all fans of early 90’s doom metal scene. Although “Dead Words Speak” is darker and less accessible than its predecessor, Johan has created yet again an opus that is masterly executed on all accounts, and with this release he proves that he’s one of the leading extreme Swedish metal musicians. Once drawn into this dark, melodic, and epic world of despair, it is uneasy to find your way out until the end. The desolate soundscapes and impenetrable atmospheres will leave you feeling utterly scared and alone...

Doom:VS - Aeternum Vale
haunt you for a long time...
By: urielms
Date: 29 Sep 2010
Rating:

Doom:VS is the one-man project of Johan Ericson, one of the starting members of Draconian, playing the drums for them during the 1994-2002 era, while afterwards he switched to the guitars leaving the drumming to Jerry Torstensson. Having formed Doom:VS, he started moving towards his very own path, a path that could lead only to one dirrection, the dark side of doom metal, proving that he's really gifted and has a lot to offer to the scene. Something that proves me correct is the fact that he dealt with everything having to do with the debut album of this fabulous project, from the cover to the production and all the instrumentation.
..The keyboards make the overall atmosphere more intense with their melancholically devout aesthetic since they lurk in the aspyxiating by the tears atmosere and the vocals make their appearance to put an end to the listener's miserable life. Deep grunting vocals that make the listener's esoteric world shiver, while at times some clean melodic vocals, like on the epic "Aeternum", bring forth memories of the clean vocal lines of Mourning Beloveth, will leave scars on your quivering soul, scars that won't heal since Doom:VS is going to haunt you for a long time...

Evoken - Caress Of The Void, A
Great CD!
By: urielms
Date: 29 Sep 2010
Rating:

‘A Caress Of The Void’ is seven songs full of atmosphere, loads of echo on the guitar sounds, deep gurgling death grunts and very little space left for compassion or pity. The uncanny doom swelling up from the deepest thoughts are maybe a bit predictable but surely pleasantly recognisable. You have to be made of stone not to like or have suicidal thoughts listening to ‘Mare Erythraeum’ or ‘Suffer A Martyr's Trial (Procession At Dusk)’. Evoken plays doom on a high standard and of course the common doom influences of My Dying Bride are there, but also The Swans or King Crimson or the dark sound scapes of Lustmord can be heard. They truly sound like the nails being hammered in the lid of your coffin. Great CD!

Evoken - Antithesis Of Light
We arise to a different despair…
By: urielms
Date: 29 Sep 2010
Rating:

"Antithesis Of Light" is one of those albums you must get to show that you really care about yourself, simply because compositions like the imposing "In Solitary Ruin", the nightmarish "Accursed Premonition", the powerfully lyrical "The Mournful Refusal", the utterly mourning "Pavor Nocturnus", the beautifully atmospheric "Antithesis Of Light" and the eerie "The Last Of Vitality" are not of those songs that a band composes every day.

So, concluding, if you find "Antithesis Of Light" in a music store don't do the mistake and pass it by, you will be missing a new doom metal diamond from a band that has still a lot to offer in the rotten world of doom/death metal, because it's not only mourning and sorrow, it's also hate, pain and disgust.

"And from the haunted arms of Morpheus,
We arise to a different despair…"
