Goreblast is finally on dfm.
SROM is one of my favourite Goregrind bands. Goreblast is their first album. 24 Killer tracks, all are great. Satan Rules, Gorevolution, We Come To Eat You, Eat Eat Eat!, Goat Gut Gore Core, Hyperbrutal Splattersatan, I Hate Nature... just to name a few. This album is just great shit. 5 Pentagramms.

Satyricon - Now, Diabolical
|
Now, Diabolical |
|
With 2006’s “Now, Diabolical” we see Satyricon’s final transition from black metal into more of a black ‘n’ roll band, and the results are not exactly mind blowing.
This is a simple, straight forward album which sounds nothing like Satyricon’s earlier material. The overall intensity we expect from any black metal band is lacking, and in its place we get a mixture of catchy radio friendly songs, and slow paced tracks which don’t seem to have many memorable moments to them. Frost’s drumming on this album gives the impression he’s been forcibly restrained from going at full fury, which is a shame, as we all know he’s capable of much better (see: 1349).
Two of the more radio friendly songs on this album are K.I.N.G. and The Pentagram Burns, and obviously the band thought so too, as music videos have been made for both tracks. Both of these tracks are definitely among the best songs on the album: K.I.N.G. is very simple, catchy and memorable whereas The Pentagram Burns is one of the darker tracks on this album and shows considerable promise of what’s to come next.
However, the album gets quite stale from here until we get to the track To The Mountains, which I think is a very good track, and shows that the band still hasn’t completely lost their touch. I believe this song would have turned out much better had they recorded it 10 years earlier during their prime years.
On certain limited editions of this album, as well as the K.I.N.G. single, there’s a track called Storm (Of The Destroyer), and if you intend to buy this album, try and make sure your copy has this song on it. Storm (Of The Destroyer) may be the shortest track on this album (at under three minutes), but it’s also the fastest and most intense song on this album. Satyricon should have put this song on all copies of "Now, Diabolical", not just some, because this is a great song and deserves to be heard by everybody who buys this album.
Overall this is an incredibly soft listen and severely lacking in aggression compared to their earlier albums, someone who didn’t know any better would think early Satyricon and later era Satyricon were two different bands. That doesn’t mean this album is shit, but by no means is “Now, Diabolical” a genre-defying masterpiece.

Death Metal? |

This could as easily and more appropriately be labeled Melodic Death Metal. And that's unususal for Denmark. Still enjoyable music.

Fine Colombian Death Metal as Colombian Females are... |

Well, nice addition to this database. This band has certainly impressed me and therefore I voted it five. They are not really BDM; They, at least in this album play something in between Death Metal and BDM, not quite reaching the brutality, at least not constant, of BDM. Now, that's not a criticism, only an observation. Spinemaggot is thrilled and out...

Ancient Balls - Voices

greek death metal band |

I ve listened to all the songs of this album quite many times ,actually I would consider myself a sort of a fan. I like how this band sounds despite the fact that i m more into old school death metal. Truth is Ancientballs sort of confused me at the beginning when i was trying to figure out what they really sound like. But now i would say they sound like Ancientballs ...whatever that means :-)

Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times
|
Dark Medieval Times |
|
“Dark Medieval Times”, the debut album by Satyricon, was released back in the year 1994, during the height of the second wave of black metal.
Overall this is a more atmospheric release compared to most of the other releases by Satyricon’s black metal counterparts of the time, especially with their rather frequent use of medieval folk music throughout the album, but that only serves to enhance the atmosphere of the music. However, this album is still definitely black metal as it should be: intense, cold, varied, uncompromising and dark.
This band and album doesn’t get quite as much recognition compared to the other Norwegian black metal bands that were also active at the time (Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, Immortal, Emperor etc...), but it’s just as good as anything released by the previously mentioned bands. “Dark Medieval Times” definitely proves that Satyricon belongs amongst Norway’s best, and should be considered one of the key albums that helped to define the great genre of black metal.
If you like black metal you’ll like this, simple as that.
