Helheim - Jormundgand
|
Jormundgand |
|
Similar to the way Kamfar play their caustic Viking/Black Metal. The songs are lengthy, intricate and primitive in their nature. The fast, lustreless atmosphere generated by the bands early works, makes for hard digesting, yet it is Black Metal, albeit set to a Viking theme.
Formed in 1992, the bands 1995 debut Jormundgand, is a crude, almost incoherent set of songs that swirl in a violent beauty of atonal riffing and primitive gnarled chaotic distortion. Screaming shrills scratch the air and follow a similar path to Burzum in terms of texture and disturbing atmospheres. The Viking elements are virtually cloaked in the ear shredding schitzoid vocal attack and raw to the marrow guitar sound.
Av Norron Aett [1997], the bands second full length finds the screechy vocals replaced by a more gravelled approach, thus making the fast swooning Black Viking Metal more palatable. Clean vocals evoke the Viking elements that make this release.

Myriads - Introspection
|
Introspection |
|
Myriads return with their second album “Introspection” three years after their 1999 release “In Spheres Without Time”, and have continued on with their unique brand of blackened gothic metal. The musicianship has only improved between albums, resulting in an even more atmospheric album, with the operatic and symphonic elements even more prevalent than before.
Vocally, the band still uses the same two vocalists, and their style hasn’t changed that much from “In Spheres Without Time”. However, one main difference is both vocalists use quite a bit more clean/operatic vocals, but with the heavier use of operatic and symphonic elements throughout the album this actually only serves to enhance the quality of the music.
Those who like their first album will definitely enjoy “Introspection”, because everything they do in their first album is done here as well, and is usually done in even better quality. If you’re looking for brutal or dark as fuck metal, then you’ve come to the wrong place. However, Myriads have proven that you don’t need to be brutal or dark to create excellent extreme metal music.
Very nice album cover, by the way.

Myriads - In Spheres Without Time

In Spheres Without Time |

Myriads are a very different band compared to your other typical extreme metal bands. While their music would mainly be categorized as gothic metal, this is much more than just regular gothic metal. In their debut album “In Spheres Without Time”, Myriads combine together elements of symphonic, operatic, black and gothic metal to create a sound unique within metal.
Vocally, the band uses two vocalists (one male and one female) and they both use different styles of vocals throughout the music, from harsh vocals to clean and even operatic singing. This combined vocal performance is unlike anything you’ve ever heard amongst other metal bands, and can take a bit of getting used to, but this really complements the music very well.
In this album Myriads release an incredible wave of atmosphere, melody and symphony that can actually be quite difficult to comprehend for the average metal fan, but those who can appreciate this type of music will definitely find themselves coming back for more.

Negura Bunget - Zirnindu-Sa

Negura Bunget - "Zîrnindu-Sã" |
|
"Zîrnindu-Sã" is the debut studio album from Romanian extreme metal act Negura Bunget. Negura Bunget have been around metal scene since the mid-nineties and this debut album was released in 1996.
The music can be described as atmospheric black metal. Nothing out of the ordinary IMO. Raspy extreme black metal vocals and both fast and mid-paced black metal riffing. The music is actually pretty melodic with lots of symphonic keyboards which spice up the primitive black metal. When it´s most melodic I´m reminded of the very influential Swedish death metal band Unanimated. The lyrics are in Romanian but it doesn´t really matter much as the raspy vocals are pretty hard to understand. The vocals are pretty good IMO. Aggressive and sharp.
The band only consists of two members at this time.
Hupogrammos Disciple's : Guitars, Vocals, Bass and Keyboards
Negru : Drums , Percussions
This is actually not a bad album but it is pretty basic, melodic and symphonic black metal.

Septicflesh - Fallen Temple, A
|
Underrated |
|
severely underrated cult album.. they got more attention lately with "Communion" , which sound more "commercial" (excellent album still) but for me this is the peak of their career.. atmospheric death metal, very dark, with lots of symphonic parts, and even entire opera-like songs (Underworld I+II).. this kind of sound is very specific to greek bands (Varathron, Nightfall).. for open-minded people only!

MayheM... back then they were good (I don't like the new MayheM).
This is my favorite Black Metal album. This one leads my way into bm. It's cold, it's evil, it's raw, it's how it shoud be: Kvlt as Fvkk. Just listen to Freezing Moon and you know what I mean. Csihar's vocals fit perfect with the atmosphere. The drums are like hell and the overall sound is just great.
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is a masterpiece in Black Metal history. 5 pentagrams \m/

Well, ähm, er... It's doooooooom and I like this one. I Like this? Yeah.
So, what can I say 'bout this one. Hmm... It's a finnish band with russian lyrics and that is pretty cool. I don't know much 'bout the doom genre, but every doomster should give KYPCK a shot. It's atmospheric, the vocals are really great and... Well I think it's all said. I'm not in this stuff, but KYPCK is very good.
4 pentagrams from a breester.

Emperor - Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk
|
EMPEROR "Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk" |
|
This is the Emperor's second Full Lenght, out in July 8th, 1997. The Cover Art used on this album is another illustration by Gustave Doré, from the "Lost Paradise". The Line-up used for this Album was: Ihsahn on Main Lead Guitars, All Vocals, Synth, Samoth on Lead and Rhythm Guitars, Alver on Bass Guitars and Trym on Drums and Percussion.
In My Opinion this is the Album which lead the new sound of the Contemporary Black Metal in the worldwide. No one did that kind of music before and of course, Emperor did that succesfully. This album has a Neo-Classical sounds and the remastered 1998 version include bonus tracks like In Longing Spirit, Opus A Satana (Classical Instruments), The Loss and Curse of Reverence (Live) and The Loss and Curse of Reverence (Multimedia Video).
The opening to "Ye Entrancemperium" was written by Euronymous from Mayhem, one of my favourite songs like "Thus Spake The Nightspirit", "The Loss And Curse Of Reverence" and of course "With Strength I Burn" which is one of the best songs by Emperor in the Black Metal scene.
This Album is as "In the Nightside Eclipse", one of the best Black Metal Albums ever made. Really fast tempo, perfect harmonies with a blasting sound, excellent Vocals & Lyrics, so I rate this Album 5.0 and highly recommended Black Metal Masterpiece.

Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja
|
Epic |

Moonsorrow's absolute masterpiece.. very epic and melodic, blood-boiling atmosphere, you can almost see the drakkars in the mist (although Finland is not a viking nation) .. Jumalten Kaupunki is by far their best song.. 5/5
