This is the kind of album most worth playing when you are not simply alone but also lonely, or at least considerably melancholic or sorrowful for some reason. It simply won't work on a sunny day when you're feeling good and your life's alright -- so be warned that this album may not be for you. Otherwise you really need _Gudsforladt_ in your collection.

Cannibal Corpse - Tomb Of The Mutilated
Classic Death Metal |
This is one of my favorite album by Cannibal Corpse. The production is simply great. You even get alot of low end fidelity. The Bass is clearly recognizable and sounds great. Alex Webster is a beast on the bass guitar. Paul plays the drums very fast. The blast beats are varied and played at many numerous tempos. Bob Rusay and Jack Owen play heavy chunky riffs with lots of harmonics and squealing guitar solos. Chris Barnes does some of his best vocal work on this album. He even adds some nice screams to mix it up a bit. The lyrics are at their grossest. I feel that the lyrics are very creative though. Topics such as infanticide, disembowelment, cranial bludgonment, necrophilia and of course zombies. All in all this is one of those albums where every member contributes to the whole and a great classic album is made. It is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Cannibal Corpse - Gallery Of Suicide
Death Opened The Gallery |
Picking up where Vile left off, Cannibal Corpse have done it again. Always on the forefront of the death metal scene, this album is one of the best releases this year in this genre. Pat O'brien proves to be very good replacement for Rob Barrett. The drums are typical Mazurciewicz, not extremely complex, but precise. Songs like Sentenced to Burn and Gallery of Suicide show a ever evolving Cannibal Corpse, while songs like I Will Kill You and Blood Drenched Execution, show that they can still use an old style and keep it fresh. I have always felt Corpsegrinder was more than an adequate replacement for Barnes, even more brutal. A definate must have for those into BRUTAL music.

Behemoth - Evangelion
Vicious Assault of Brutality |
Behemoth's sound has slowly but surely evolved into true greatness. "Demigod" really showed the power and talent that this band is capable of. With "The Apostasy", Behemoth showed that they were well onto something absolutly incredible. But finally with "The Evangelion", they have really managed to burn their mark forever on the world of music and leave ashes in the wake. This album flows with an incredible sonic pace. There are no weak songs on the album, each song just lends to the next. "Ov Fire And The Void" is a true accomplishment of music greatness. The songs on this album are layered with incredible guitars, none bleeding over the other. Inferno's drums are devastating in their power, speed and sound. Nergal has really pushed the envelope and come up with a truly great album, one I believe that will be talked about for many years to come. If you have the chance to see them live as I have, you will find out they can pull all of the greatness off and add even more power, more hate, more granduer.

Marduk - Wormwood
One of my favorite Marduk albums |
This album is simply amazing. The pain that Marduk is trying to demonstrate comes across extremely well on this release. Mortuus's vocals are probably the best that he has put on a Marduk album and is easily becoming the best vocalist the band has had.
If you are an old school Marduk fan or checking them out for the first time this is the album to get. It has the slow evil songs and the full out blasting destruction songs. Marduk continues to impress me after all these years. If you love black metal or just plain metal this is definitely an album you should check out.

Marduk - Rom 5:12
Marduk at their peak |
I have always enjoyed Marduk. They put the most insanely fast song followed by an evil slow song. They give you a little bit of everything. Rom 5:12 is no different. Now lead singer Mortuus vomits words out of his mouth instead of just the normal Legion growl. Listen to Accuser/Opposer and you will see what I mean. Their trend continues and it continues for the better.

Burzum - Filosofem
Another Masterpiece from Varg |
Filosofem isn't merely an album, but a disturbing journey into the mind of Vark Vikernes. Which each track, he evokes more emotion than I could ever tell you with words. The Black Metal songs on this release are arguably his best...from the slow, meandering "Dunkelheit (Burzum)" to the faster & unbelievably eerie "Jesus' Tod", Varg shows us a new meaning to the term Black Metal. Aside from the 3 BM songs, the rest of the CD is filled with twisted Ambient. Some noisy...distorted guitars & rasping vocals, to the 25 minute keyboard song which has only one melody all the way through (absolutely the best meditation track I have ever heard in my life). If you don't like Burzum, you don't like Black Metal.

Deicide - Stench Of Redemption, The
A new lineup for Deicide proves to record their most provocative album to date |
When Glen Benton has two members of his band leave and piss him off, man does it show in a killer way in the finished product. Steve Asheim wrote all the music for this. Glen Benton's vocal attack on this CD is his best since the old Legion days. Not wasting time and getting Jack Owen and Ralph Santolla on guitars, was the best choice he could have made. On Scars of The Crucifix, it was all out war in the songs. Not many breaks, just straight out hammering away, song after song. On this one, there's more structure to the songs, better riffs, and guitar solos that actually say something. Not to bash Scars, that was a great release, but this one is a newer more enraged Deicide. Big time Devil-horned salute to Glen and Steve for creating this one!
