EVERYBODY LOVES A LIST!
50 Best Metal Songs of 2013 By Kim Kelly • December 12, 2013
28. “PRIMORDIAL BOOZE”
BLACKRAT, WHISKEY AND BLASPHEMY
(Xnihilo Records)

Worshipping upon the bloodstained altars of Sodom, Kreator and, above all, Venom, Blackrat came tearing out of Calgary like men possessed. Gleefully self-aware and utterly unrepentant, the title track off debut Whiskey and Blasphemypays homage to Beezlebub, blood and booze (in that order). Evil as shit and fun as hell.

Deafheaven - Sunbather
Pink Metal
By: SummoningEternalNightMCMX
Date: 25 Oct 2013
Rating:

The surprise Black Metal hit of the year is...an attempt at subverting the genre by a bunch of American emo trendies. Although bland and unmemorable, this is the perfect soundtrack for sipping cocktails by the pool in the California sunshine. But for summoning Satan himself to the icy fjords? Not so much.

This album. Is a stunning masterpiece. Easily one of Summoning's greatest achievements. The varied instrumentation, the vocals, the flow of the album, the symmetry, this album takes you to another world. Possibly my favorite album of 2013

Cradle Of Filth - Damnation And A Day
Pinnacle of Cradle of Filths Carrer!!!
By: snakeofdeath125
Date: 19 Oct 2013

This album is a different style from albums before and later, you can just hear the scream that Dani does sounds higher pitch or whatever. I also thought the symphonic songs that only use orchestra were very good and put dark images in your mind. The music videos they did also for the songs mannequin and Babylon a.d were ok I guess, Babylon a.d being about a maid who finds a video when cleaning then ends up being in the video or something where people are being tortured by whips, and mannequin being about a women trying to run away from being Dani's mannequin. Overall was probably up there with some of there best albums having much diversity with symphonic orchestra's like a scarlet witch lit the season, end of daze, and the mordant liquor of tears, depressive sounding songs like mannequin, serpent tongue, thank god for the suffering and hurt and virtue, heavier sounding songs like the promise of fever and presents from the poison hearted, mellow sounding songs like and enemy ley the tempest and the smoke of her burning, and good old fashioned singles of this album being better to reign in hell and carrion.

Warmaster - End Of Humanity, The
Just get it!
By: Eskidead
Date: 15 Oct 2013
Rating:

This new Warmaster album continues the recipe from their debut album First War. This is quite simple, easy-to-listen-to death metal, with inspirations from Bolt Thrower, Six feet Under and others.
Compared to the debut, there's not much new to say, except the sound has changed slightly, becoming clearer and more dynamic which in my book is a good thing.
If you want people introduced to death metal I will say that Warmaster is a great band to start out with. The riffs and song structures make them very easy to recognize among other, way more technical bands.

Carcass - Surgical Steel
Re-animated carcass

don't know if a comeback was necessary, but they easily surpass new death metal bands. they still got it definitely.. heavier than their latest, but not at the same level with Heartwork. good stuff anyways

Immolation - Kingdom Of Conspiracy
Ferocity
By: misanthrone
Date: 14 Oct 2013
Rating:

to describe the album in one word: ferocious!
Dawn of possession will forever be considered their best for what it meant to the scene, but music-wise I think this is their peak. Blasting technical death metal, album of the year in this genre. the handling of their instruments is unbelievable, also live they are a deadly band.
